The House of Silk: A Sherlock Holmes Novel

The House of Silk: A Sherlock Holmes Novel
by Anthony Horowitz

The year is 1890. The place, London, England. The city is bustling with activity, and Holmes is once again called in to handle what starts out as a fairly trivial case of stalking and turns into a full bodied tale of train robbery pulled off by a gang of Irish ruffians led by twins, a trip to a very mysterious boy's school and a narrow escape from death at a freak show. Sound complicated? Well it is and would have to be to be a classic Sherlock Holmes mystery. This marvelous adventure stretches throughout the structure of British society, from the well-heeled down to the poorest of the poor, the orphans of Victorian England. Told by an aged Watson, recalling his now dead friend, this sweeping story is so shocking and monstrous that it will be locked away for a hundred years after he finishes writing it since the consequences could rock British society to its very core.

Author Anthony Horowitz has done a wonderful job of recreating the feel of Victorian London and embodies the familiar characters we know and love with the richness they deserve. It is not surprising to learn that the Arthur Conan Doyle Estate gave Horowitz the opportunity to write this sizzling tale. The best selling author has done his best to remain true to the task at hand. From Holmes and Watson, to Mycroft and Moriarty, Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson, they are all there, waiting to welcome us into their world. And an exciting world of adventure and mystery it is. Will Holmes be able to find one lost orphan in a huge city filled with despairing souls? Is the mysterious wife really a murdering adventuress or simply misunderstood? Does it matter if she can swim or not? Will Holmes be proved innocent of murder before he hangs? Read The House of Silk to find the answer to these and many other enticing questions. Grab your deer-stalker and your revolver, the game's afoot! See you at The Bag of Nails!
